Update: My business named changed to HelmPT.com in January 2019
I’m thrilled to announce – at MediaPost’s Brand Marketers Summit in Tahoe – the launch of HelmWellness.com and our enhanced services including physical therapy, personal training, and customized wellness programs enabled by mobile, social and web technologies. While this marks a significant moment in time for my practice, I’ve been passionate about and helping to empower people to be and feel their best for more than 10 years as a physical therapist and certified personal trainer in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Why Helm PT, Now?
As we age, our bodies don’t always respond as we would hope but there are actions that can be taken to improve our response to the natural aging process. These actions come in the form of:
– physical therapy for injury, balance, neurological or medical issues
– personal fitness training for specific strength and flexibility needs
– custom wellness programs for individuals and groups
No matter what, we help inspire and/or maintain our patients’ levels of function and activities for any lifestyle!
There’s no question that mobile, social and web technologies are helping us to be more productive, communicate with greater ease, play games on-the-go, connect with friends and family at light speed, etc. In fact, Helm Wellness is launching as a digital business with unique tools and resources to better serve patients and their doctors. But the widespread adoption of technology – coupled with the natural aging process and minimal or strenuous activities at various stages of our lives – increases our risk of temporary or permanent injury, less range of comfortable motion, and generally not feeling our best.

Our Backstory
Ann (Mull) Helm, Founder of Helm PT
I became a certified personal fitness trainer in 1995 with the National Strength & Conditioning Association, and became a licensed Physical Therapist after graduating from the professional program in Physical Therapy at California State University, Sacramento in 1998.
Both my personal training and physical therapy background have helped me develop my business, where I am privileged to treat patients with injuries or educate and train them in injury prevention, as well as design and implement training programs for people who want personalized conditioning.
I am fortunate to have worked in many different physical therapy settings, including out-patient orthopedic clinics, hospitals, and home health companies, all with patients recovering from a variety of orthopedic and acute medical conditions. In addition, I have taught group classes for knee and back injury prevention, and I have been a lecturer at independent living facilities on fall prevention. My special areas of interest include rehabilitating those with orthopedic, medical, or neurological conditions, and training others for general fitness and fall prevention. I also specialize in myofascial release and/or massage and work with people of many ages, from the teen population to the geriatric population.
As a personal fitness trainer, I discuss with clients their goals and create customized fitness programs that will enable them to attain those goals. The education I provide adds to the clients’ understanding and purpose of specific exercises. I also focus on lifestyle change, helping with new conditioning and nutritional habits.
With the growing number of people dedicated to a healthy lifestyle, many people are living longer. As a result, I also work with people age 70 and over. Many want to prevent injuries or heal from an injury, find new ways to function daily with a physical deficit, improve their balance to prevent falls, and/or simply become stronger. I feel privileged to work with these individuals and am inspired every time I see their level of mobility and function improve for daily living, or when they attain the goals we have set together.
I grew up in Laguna Hills, CA, with my parents and 3 siblings. In my younger years, I played softball and then, at Laguna Hills High School, I ran cross country and track and field. In February, 2015 I was inducted into the Laguna Hills High School athletic Hall of Fame, for the records I had set while on the cross country and track and field teams at the high school. After high school I was recruited by UCLA to run cross country and track and field. I currently run on a women’s running club enjoying trail running and competing in 10km races and half marathons.
In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my two daughters and extended family. It is a gift to be able to enjoy my daughters’ sports and school activities, along with simply watching them grow into young ladies.
