Your initial 60-minute evaluation will include a detailed discussion of your medical history, analysis of your condition and movement patterns, assessment of your specific goals, and hands-on treatment. The initial evaluation session will allow you and your therapist to determine how to best spend your regular treatment sessions together.
Regular 60-minute treatment sessions will include a blend of the following:
• Joint mobilization
• Soft tissue mobilization
• Myofascial release
• Therapeutic massage
• Trigger point release
• Specific therapeutic exercises for functional strengthening
• Core strengthening activities
• Neuromuscular re-education
• Balance retraining
• Gait training
• Ergonomics assessment
• Sports-specific conditioning
Together, you and your therapist will develop a meaningful home exercise program to support the gains you make during treatment as you continue to work on your own.
How many treatments will I need?
This depends on the condition you are being seen for, how long you have had the condition, whether you’ve had surgery, and your wellness goals. If you are being treated for a new injury, you should begin to see improvement within 1 to 3 sessions; however, chronic injuries may take longer to correct. You are always welcome to schedule routine sessions as often as you like for injury prevention and to tune up your body for optimal performance.
Does Helm PT accept insurance?
Helm Wellness is not contracted with any health insurance companies or with Medicare. Because Helm Wellness is a fee-for-service practice, payment is due at the beginning of each treatment session, after which you may submit your itemized receipt to your insurance company.
Can I receive reimbursement for my treatment sessions through my HSA or FSA?
Yes, if you would like to receive reimbursement for our services from your Health Savings Account (HSA) or Flexible Spending Account (FSA), please let us know and we will give you a receipt for that purpose.
Do I need a doctor’s referral or prescription?
No. California is a direct access state that allows you to choose to be seen by the physical therapy provider of your choice for 12 visits or 45 days, whichever comes first, without a physician referral.
I am a Medicare beneficiary. Can I still be seen by Helm PT?
We are not contracted with Medicare, and therefore we only see Medicare beneficiaries for the purposes of wellness care, which is not a Medicare-covered service. Please contact us if you have questions about which services you may be eligible to receive from Helm Wellness.
How should I prepare for my first treatment session?
Please print, fill out, and sign the forms located beneath the Patient Resources tab prior to your first session, and contact us if you have any questions about what to expect during your initial evaluation.
What should I wear during my treatments?
Please wear loose-fitting, comfortable clothing that allows access to the region of the body you need help with. If you require treatment for your low back, please wear shorts or pants that have an elastic waistband. If you need help with a neck or shoulder injury, please wear a tank top that allows access to the area of involvement. If you have a knee or ankle problem, please wear shorts or loose pants that roll up above the knee.
