Therapeutic massage is a form of soft tissue mobilization, a healing practice that is performed to reduce scar tissue restrictions, break up myofascial adhesions, and eliminate muscle spasms.
Your therapist’s sensitive fingertips will progressively and sequentially assess the layers of your muscles, tendons, ligaments, and fascia from superficial to deep, applying an appropriate amount of pressure to release painful tightness and tension. Massage techniques may include myofascial release, soft tissue mobilization, trigger point release, cross-fiber friction massage, and sports massage for specific areas of injury. During treatment, your therapist will remain attuned to your comfort level and listen to your feedback about the location and intensity of your pain so she can adapt her pressure according to your preferences and responses to treatment.
At Helm PT, we use unscented, hypoallergenic lotion to reduce friction at the skin layer and to maximize your comfort during the therapeutic massage portion of your treatment so you can relax and heal.
